Sephora VIB Rouge Haul & Quick Update

Happy Hump Day nerds and nerdettes! I am enjoying this lovely Spring (finally!) weather here in Maryland with my fur nephews Squirt and Salt. It’s been a while since my last post and quite a few things have changed. I am no longer working at Columbia Academy, after working as a preschool teacher for three years I decided it was time to go back to school to finish getting my degree. Unfortunately, my employer and I were not able to come up with a reasonable schedule so I could attend school and work, so I had to do what was best for myself and my future.

I absolutely miss my students and the lovely ladies I have formed a very strong bond with, but I know this is what’s best for me and my fiance. Speaking of the fiance, he recently went back to school to obtain his certificate in his current field so I am super excited that both of us will be back in school!

Now, onto the goodies I have hauled! Continue reading

L’ORÉAL Evercreme Cleansing Conditioner Review

Since I’ve been on hiatus I came across some uh-mazing products and this one definitely falls under the category and then some!

image

L’ORÉAL Evercreme Cleansing Conditioner skips the step of shampoo by giving you a low lather conditioner that cleanses without stripping your hair, and moisturizes like a deep conditioner. Let me just say, I’ve purchased so many shampoo and conditioners from drugstore brands to high end salon brands and have always had the same results; frizzy, dry hair. The only way I walked out of the shower with soft and manageable hair was if I used a ridiculous amount of conditioner, and even then my hair still had the consistency of straw.

When I came across this product the cynic in me rolled her eyes, but being a glutton for punishment (of my wallet hehe) I decided to give it a try. Hallelujah! The savior to my hair had arrived! Not only was my hair super soft, it only cost me $6! I can shelve all my failed purchases thanks to this miracle in a bottle :)

Although this product has saved my hair, there were a couple of drawbacks (nothing to keep me from purchasing this in the future). My one gripe is…the pump. I will admit you really don’t need a lot of product to get a your hair saturated, but you do have to work that pump just to get a decent amount out. Maybe a traditional pop open top would be better for this bottle.

Here’s the rundown…

Product

10/10 This product literally saved my hair! Not only that, I skipped a step in the shower so I’m saving time as well :). This conditioner also has a very strong vanilla-y fragrance that I love and lingers till the next wash.

Packaging

7.5/10 The pump sucks! I’ll still be stocking up on this stuff but I will be optimistic and hope they get rid of this pump :). It takes atleast ten pumps just to get a quarter size amount!

Price

10/10 At $6 a bottle you can’t beat the price! Considering the hundreds, maybe even thousands spent on shampoos and conditioners that just end up getting tossed I am very very very pleased with the price :).

Like I said I love this one step hair system! It has made my hectic schedule just a little less hectic, and has completely saved my hair. If you have the same issue with your hair as me (long, fine, frizzy, straight hair) give this a whirl :).

Happy Hump Day Nerds!

Curls & A Haul

It’s Friday! Not only is it Friday, but its Friday the 13th (cue the scary music!). My boyfriend and I are die hard horror fanatics so we decided to stay in, order some take-out and have a Friday The 13th movie marathon. Before we started our horrorthon we went grocery shopping and I stopped by Walmart to grab a few things.

image

I needed a new bottle of toner and I heard Avalon Organics Vitamin C Renewal Balancing Toner is a great toner for combination skin. I also picked up a few masks for those lazy days around the house :). These masks are $1.50 at Walmart and believe me these work wonders!

I also spent some birthday money my boyfriend’s parents gave me and picked up this amazing curling wand I’ve had my eyes on for quite a while.

image

I don’t normally curl my hair cause traditional curling irons are not my forte, but this wand had me falling head-over-heels! It is a tad frustrating to maneuver at first, but once you get the hang of it you’ll be in love.

BAM! Curls :).

How are you spending your Friday the 13th? Leave a comment!

Natural Hair Mask

I try my best to use as little chemicals in the house, I’m not “green” completely cause there are some things I just can’t  live without. If I need any organic/natural home remedies I go to my sis, she’s a mommy of two and doesn’t use chemicals in her house. Side note if you want an effective way to clean your bathtub, use half a grapefruit some coarse salt and voila! Plus it’ll smell like grapefruit for awhile which I love!

If you dye your hair regularly like me, afterwards your hair tends to feel like its lost its luster. After my at home dye job (wait a couple of days after you use the provided conditioner the first time) I make this very easy hair mask for conditioning and restoring.

Banana Avocado Mask

Ingredients:

1 ripe banana
1 ripe avocado
1 egg
2 tablespoons of honey
3 tablespoons of buttermilk (I usually don’t have buttermilk lying around so scroll down for a buttermilk recipe)
3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil

Directions

1. Mash banana, avocado and egg in bowl till most of avocado and banana are thoroughly mashed.

2. Add honey, buttermilk and olive oil to mixture and stir till well mixed.

3. Apply to wet hair and cover with a shower cap. Trust me you will NEED the cap, this mask is very messy!

4. Leave on for 30 minutes, then rinse with a moisturizing shampoo.

Do this once a month for healthy hair.

Buttermilk Subsitute Recipe

1 tablespoon of white vinegar it lemon juice

Enough milk to make one cup

Directions:

Add vinegar to liquid one cup measure. Then add enough milk till it gets to the one cup line.

Let sit 5 minutes.

Very simple!

My Love Hate Relationship With Garnier

So for the past 5 years I’ve used Garnier Nutrisse to dye my hair cause for awhile it was the only hair dye that didn’t totally damage my hair and was easy to apply. I always have to touch up my roots every few weeks cause I am lucky enough to have many gray hairs since I was 19. The last time I used this brand hair dye it really effed up my hair and really dried it out. I promised myself next time I’m switching cause the color it gave me might have been nice, but if my hair feels like a pile of straw that’s a total deal breaker.

Fast forward to last night, I needed to touch up my hair again so I went strolling down the hair dye aisle and saw this…

image

I was curious and apparently a glutton for punishment lol. I’ve been wanting to change up my hair color for a while and this claimed to work on naturally black to light brown hair. My hair naturally is a very dark brown borderline soft black so I knew this would be awesome to try out without going too far off my natural color. The results are why I have a love/hate feeling with Garnier.

It did change my color but nothing significantly noticeable. You can see the color is more auburn than dark brown black. It certainly isn’t what the color on the box is, but its kinda close so I wasn’t too disappointed.

image

Once again though it effed up my hair and I made sure I hadn’t washed my hair for 3 days cause I knew I’d be coloring my hair. I know this complaint is my fault for buying the brand again but still! Granted the damage wasn’t half as bad as last time but with the color failure and you add damage to that this will be my last Garnier purchase.

The only good thing I can say is it made my hair super shiny.

Has anyone had the same issues with this hair dye? Let me know!
