A Tour of My Vanity

It’s a hot and sunny Sunday here in Maryland! The fiance and I are half way through our awesome three day weekend of gaming, relaxing and for me, blogging! As I had mentioned in my previous post, I turned our spare bedroom into what my fiance has dubbed “The Fortress of Makeuptude” (Superman reference for any confused readers). I had waited for the day to have my own space where I could have room to store all my awesome makeup and not have it overcrowd our bedroom, so when I say I was super duper excited, it is an understatement!

I’ve had my beauty space now for about a few months and I loooooooove it! I still need a few more home decor pieces but I like the way my vanity has turned out. I wanted to share with you guys my “workspace”, beware though! This post will be picture heavy to say the least!

My Summer Loves

First off, how the hell are ya guys?! I know it’s been the better part of a century since I’ve posted! Okay so it hasn’t quite been that long, but I could feel that little blogger in me screaming “Post something, ANYTHING!” So here I am alive and mostly kickin’! I guess I should update everyone on my whereabouts and what the hell I’ve been doing with myself.

Favorites Of 2012

It’s well into January and February is approaching so I know this is very late post but I have finally had a weekend without plans since November (yay!). 2012 was a very eventful year for me personally as well as professionally, and most importantly the launch of this wonderful blog I have sadly been neglecting as of recent, but I am trying my best to get back into the swing of blogging, working and attempting to have a personal life :). I noticed a lot of my favorite beauty gurus and bloggers have been talking about their favorites of 2012 and I am all about lists so I went through my growing makeup kit and picked out a few products I couldn’t get enough of!

Starting off…

1. Favorite Primer – Too Faced Primed & Poreless

ImageI’ll be honest I don’t normally use a primer because I have tried many and have broken out every time so rather than sacrifice my skin I did without. I received a deluxe size sample of this primer with my Too Faced Love Sweet Love Collection, so I decided what the hell and gave it a shot and I am thrilled I had. Lovely nerds this is my holy grail of primers! I have been using this for a few months now and it is wonderful (such and understatement it’s phenomenal!). I’ve had no breakouts since using it, it makes my skin look airbrushed before I even put on my foundation!

This stuff is so amazing and I wholeheartedly will scream my love for this product from the rooftops :).

2. Favorite Foundation – Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation in Marble

ImageNow I normally stick with the drugstore brands when it comes to my foundation but a co-worker of mine (who also loves makeup as much as me yay!) recommended I try MUFE’s HD foundation. I don’t have a Sephora close to where I live, so usually I order online, but I am always hesitant when it comes to ordering foundation, I lucked out though thanks to Temptalia’s Foundation Matrix, such a lifesaver! This foundation has been replaced by my only other high end foundation (MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NC15) not only because I am constantly getting compliments on how great my skin looks, but it feels great on my skin. Most liquid foundations I’ve tried have felt greasy or like I’m wearing a mask but this stuff blends in with my skin wonderfully and photographs beautifully.

3. Favorite Setting Powder – Physician’s Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Translucent Powder

ImageI feel no matter what I say about how amazing this product is it won’t do it justice. It give me this very natural looking glow that doesn’t look like I dipped my face in a bowl of glitter and doesn’t make my large pores visible, two things I’ve always seemed to come across with any powder that claims it will give you a natural “glow.” I will admit this didn’t give me a mood boosting effect, but the smell is quite lovely and I received a lot of compliments whenever I wear this :).

4. Favorite Bronzer & Blush – Too Faced Sun Bunny Bronzer & NARS Orgasm Blush

ImageI finally drank the Kool-Aid and bought the much coveted NARS Orgasm blush! I will admit the $28 price tag was a bit of a gut shot but at first but after testing it out and now wearing it almost every single day I am in love. It is such a great shade for my skin tone and the gold flecks in the blush don’t make my large pores visible, I was sold!

This bronzer was an awesome freebie with my Too Faced order mentioned earlier. It is only a sample size but I’ve had it since November and still have yet to run out! It’s perfect for this time of year for when you still want a hint of color without looking orange or overly bronzed. Once I run out of my sample I will most definitley be picking up the full size of this baby.

5. Favorite Eyeshadow Palettes – NYX Butt Naked Eyes, Too Faced Love Sweet Love, Urban Decay Naked Basics & Too Faced The Return Of Sexy

ImageOkay, so when I say this was the year of the eyeshadow palette for me that is such an understatement! In this year alone I purchased fifteen, that’s right fifteen different eye palettes. I had to tell my fiance to pinch me anytime I think about ordering another (I’ve ordered two more since and no pinches ha!) so when I say this was the year of the palette for me, I mean it. I narrowed it down to these four because they were the most used and that means they were my favorites of course! All of these offered amazing pigmentation with the colors, and were so soft almost creamy when applied.

6. Favorite Eyeliner – Maybelline Line Stiletto (liquid) & Too Faced Perfect Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner in Perfect Black (pencil)

ImageI have yet to find a liquid liner from Maybelline I don’t adore but this is by far the best they’ve had! It creates very sharp lines and is easy to do tightlines or more bold cat eye looks with this liquid liner. Love it! Too Faced’s Perfect Eyes pencil is another holy grail product for me, it doesn’t drag like the majority of eye pencils do and gives a matte black finish that almost looks like a liquid liner. I love the smudger it comes with for when I do smokey eye looks (which is most of the time) and it lasts the whole work day (12 hours!).

7. Favorite Mascara – Benefit “They’re Real!” Mascara

ImageHoly guacamole is this mascara amazing! I have long lashes but when I use this it looks like I have lash extensions and give me insane volume. I only recommend one, two coats top cause after that you will get serious tarantula eyelashes :).

8. Favorite Brushes – e.l.f. Studio Stipple Brush, Complexion Brush, Small Tapered Brush & Sonia Kashuk Pointed Eyeliner Brush

ImageThese brushes are the bee knees :). I love e.l.f. they have so many wonderful items for a steal and these brushes are, in my opinion, their all stars when it comes to their studio line of brushes. They’re super soft, dense, affordable ($3 come on!) and dupes for the higher end brand of brushes. I’ve had zero shedding with these and after numerous washes have remained just as amazing since I bought them! Sonia Kashuk’s pointed liner brush is my go to anytime I use my gel or cream liner and gives a very precise line, I love this brush!

9. Favorite Brush Cleaner – e.l.f. Studio Daily Brush Cleaner

ImageIf you get like me and get lazy sometimes with brush cleaning this stuff is a lifesaver. I’m sure it gets very tedious to clean all of your brushes cause it certainly gets that way for me! This stuff is so simple and quick, spray the brush swirl off product. Bam! Done.

Houston We Have Lift Off!

If you’ve been living under a rock lately then you probably haven’t heard anything about the new MAC Heavenly Creature Collection that’s been all over the beauty blogs lately, but if you’ve heard then you know this collection is quite…perplexing? Yes, that’s the word I’m going to use :). This collection features 5 Lipsticks, 5 Cremesheen Glass, 9 Mineralize Eye Shadows, 4 Mineralize Skinfinishes, and 4 Mineralize Blushes that quite frankly are very similar to Hard Candy Baked Blushes.

I haven’t been too wowed with the numerous collections MAC has been putting out lately, but when I was able to preview this one you could have colored me curious, mainly I was drawn to the Mineralize Eye Shadows.

Described as “Baked minerals refined into a powder formula provide exceptionally sheer and lightweight application. Colour builds lightly, layer after layer, without heavy coverage.” These Mineralize Eye Shadows are available in nine out-of-this-world (gotta love the word play haha) shades for $20.

Aurora- a peachy, green and brown melange.

Bright Moon-a grey, silver and icy green melange

Earthly- a beige, peach and cool brown melange

Invincible Light- an icy white, lavender and gold melange

Magnetic Attraction- an orange, pink and gold melange

Neo Nebula- a creamy, warm amethyst and warm pink melange

Sky-a green gold, turquoise and cobalt melange

Universal Appeal- a gold, bronze, and violet melange

Water- a yellow, lime green and blue melange

Now I certainly didn’t purchase all of these cause I’m certainly not made of money haha but I did get the ones that caught my eye the most which were Sky, Water, and Bright Moon which is still breaking the bank a bit but my wallet and my shopping addiction can’t seem to ever be in sync (go figure?), luckily if you use the code SPARKS by July 1st you get free shipping so I saved a few buckaroos :).

This collection is only available online until July 5th when it hits the stores….so hurry!

Have you tried this collection yet? What was your thoughts on it? I’d love to hear! Leave a comment!

Happy 4th Of July Weekend Nerds!

More Adventures In Discount Shopping!

After buying numerous beauty products from discount stores this past weekend I had to return to get more. At first it was just to purchase the other colors of philosophy’s lit from within healthy cream blush since I was adoring the “feel warm all over” shade :). Unfortunately (for my wallet), they also had some newer items and I was in makeup heaven!

1. e.l.f. Flirty Eyelash Palette

I want need to learn to apply false lashes. These were $2.50 and the pair with gems are adorable!

2. Revlon Colorstay Mineral Bronzer in Golden Bronze

This sadly is way too light for me! When I swatched this I literally had to rub to get more color :(. I might give this to my sister cause she’s very fair.

3. Philosophy Lit From Within Healthy Cream Blushes in Feel Warm All Over & Look On The Bright Side

No your eyes have not deceived you, I bought another Feel Warm All Over blush. They were out of Bare Your Soul and since I love this color why wouldn’t I buy another? Look On The Bright Side is a lovely cool pink color that is very similar to Make Up For Ever’s HD Cream Blush #04 Fresh Pink.

4. Calvin Klein Tempting Glance Eyeshadow in Bashful

This baby was the most expensive out of all the items at $5.50! First off I didn’t even know Calvin Klein had a makeup line, but either way this eyeshadow is gorgeous for a highlighter.

5. Philosophy Travel Brush

I died when I found this brush. Besides the fact that its pink (cute!) and soft leather, this brush is perfect for travel and the bristles are soft but firm making it a pretty good quality brush :).

Endless Sea Vs. Tenacious Teal

I was requested to review  L’Oreal’s Infinite Eyeshadow in Endless Sea and Maybelline’s Color Tattoo in Tenacious Teal after my post 24 Hours Of Colorful Madness cause they appeared to be quite similar, but these eyeshadows are anything but.

Top (without flash), Bottom (with flash)

In the pots these eyeshadows look almost identical, but once swatched they are very different shades. Endless Sea has a lot more turquoise and gold shimmer whereas Tenacious Teal is more of a true blue with equal amount of blue and silver shimmer.

I applied both without any primer or base)

L’Oreal Infinite Eyeshadow

This version of 24 hour eyeshadow is where, in my opinion, blows Maybelline’s version out of the water. This eyeshadow is a wet powder that with your finger or brush applies effortlessly and did not budge during the entire time I had it on, even without a primer :).

Maybelline Color Tattoo

Without a primer this eyeshadow barely lasted. I only kept it on after five hours cause it started creasing pretty bad :(. This is a cream eyeshadow so it was more difficult to apply for me and needed to be built up a lot with my brush to get even coverage. I would probably only ever use this color as an eyeliner.

24 Hours Of Colorful Madness

Okay, so I went a little crazy today when I stopped by Walgreens. I’ve desperately been seeking for the Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadows for quite sometime now but every time I go they’re out of all the colors I don’t have. Well today I promised myself I was going on  a tight budget for the next couple of weeks till rent/bills were covered. So of course when I stopped by Walgreens this morning, guess what was in stock and BOGO 50%?!

I also had a few $1 off coupons for any Maybelline product so after the discount plus coupon (yay me!) it was $13! Considering these babies are normally $7 each I was so happy to have saved 8 smackers :). Unfortunately, my wallet and brain were not in sync today so I bought more. Since I heard great things about these tiny treasures I had to pick these up as well.

L’Oreal also had a BOGO 50% off (its like they now I am broke but also weak for beauty products lol) so I got these Infallible 24 Hour Eyeshadows as well.

L to R; Pomegrante Punk, Tough As Taupe, Fierce And Tangy, Edgy Emerald, Tenacious Teal, and Painted Purple

I also swatched the couple I already owned :)

L to R; Midnight Blue, Liquid Diamond, Perpetual Purple, and Endless Sea

I will say the major difference between these two brands is the Maybelline is a cream/gel texture, but the L’Oreal is a dense wet powder (if that makes sense lol).

Can’t wait to try these out!
